Assistant Superintendent / Executive Director of Educational Operations Dr. Gwendolyn Diggs
Dr. Gwendolyn Diggs is the Assistant Superintendent & Executive Director of Educational Operations for Jennings School District. Dr. Diggs is an inspiring educator with over 22 years of demonstrated examples of exemplary educational leadership and keen ethics. Her passion for students and a career as an educator began while overseas working for the Department of Defense Schools. After returning to the United States, Dr. Diggs became a teacher in the Pattonville School District in Saint Louis County. She joined the Ferguson-Florissant School District (FFSD) as a building administrator with the belief that she can make a positive impact on achievement for all students. She entered as an assistant principal of an elementary school, and advanced to principal of Lee-Hamilton Elementary, and Executive Director of Federal Programs. Dr. Diggs became the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education and Educational Operations overseeing all academic operations for 24 schools: 17 elementary schools, three middle and three high schools, special education, and programs such as early childhood and gifted education. Additionally, Dr. Diggs travels to various states to work with district administrators and building principals as an educational consultant and nationally certified facilitator for the National Institute of School Leaders (NISL) and is a certified trainer in classroom management with the Center for Teacher Effectiveness.
Dr. Diggs consistently worked with all stakeholders to ensure that learning continues for all students. She worked tirelessly with administrators, facilities, transportation and food services to provide needed materials, supplies and other resources after the 2011 tornado, the Ferguson crisis during the Michael Brown shooting, and other events that heavily impacted Ferguson-Florissant students, parents, and community. This included the need to relocate schools and classrooms to off-site locations. Also, during the traumatic events in the city of Ferguson, she visited the Ferguson Library and First Baptist Church of Ferguson to compile instructional learning packets for Faith-Based organizations. Dr. Diggs founded Strategic Outreach to Achieve Results (SOAR), a tutoring and mentoring program to engage faith-based community leaders. In her second year of chairing MLK Justice Sunday – A Day of Service, Dr. Diggs brought motivational speaker and comedian Tommy Ford, from the “Martin Show” to Saint Louis as the keynote speaker for 2015.
Dr. Diggs earned a B.S. in Business Management and a Doctor of Education Administration from Nova Southeastern University, and M.Ed. in Administration from the University of Missouri Saint Louis. She is Vice-President of the Florissant Valley Kiwanis International and Board member of North County Churches United for Racial Harmony and Justice (NCCU). Other memberships include, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and The Empowered Church.
Several of Dr. Diggs awards and recognitions received from community and national organizations are the NAACP’s 100 Most Inspiring Saint Louisans, Benjamin Hooks Educator Award from the NAACP Youth Council, Iota’s Apple for the Teacher Award and the Kiwanis International Service Recognition. Also, Dr. Diggs is the author of a devotional book titled, A Place of My Own to Give God Glory.
