Average Daily Attendance (ADA)

What is JSD doing to Improve Attendance

We believe that students can’t learn if they aren’t here, and that teachers can’t teach at their best if they are frequently absent. We have adopted a system of celebrating, monitoring, and intervening to help reach our attendance goal and improve student learning every day.nHere’s how we’re acting on that:

Monthly Board Celebrations

  • Each month, we publicly recognize schools, students, and staff who meet strong attendance benchmarks. We also celebrate students who show growth—not just high achievement—but in academics, character, and attendance. This positive recognition reinforces that showing up matters.

Data Monitoring & Transparency

  • We track monthly staff attendance and monthly PAR for each school and present those numbers to the Board of Education.

  • We analyze patterns (such as which grades, which students, or which times of year experience attendance dips) so we can intervene early.

Early Intervention & Support

  • When attendance falls below threshold levels for students, we reach out to their families to understand the barriers (such as transportation, health, or scheduling issues).

  • We provide support (mentoring, check-ins, attendance incentive programs) to help students overcome those obstacles.

  • We also support staff and students with wellness programs, recognition, and a positive workplace culture to reduce absences.

Clear Expectations & Communication

  • From the first day, students and their families are informed of the importance of attendance and how every absence affects learning.

  • Staff are also reminded that consistency is part of their professional commitment to student success.

By combining celebration, accountability, data analysis, and targeted support, we work every day to increase attendance rates and ensure that, on every school day, our students and teachers are present and ready to teach and learn.
