The SPOT at Jennings High School

Building on years of successful experience working with youth,  The SPOT opened a school-based health center (SBHC) in Jennings Senior High & College Prep Academy in 2015 under the operation of WashU Medicine. The Jennings SBHC, also known as The SPOT at Jennings or JSPOT, builds upon The SPOT’s effective model of providing integrated multi-disciplinary medical health, behavioral health and social services in coordination with community partner organizations. 

School-based health centers provide accessible, affordable, and high-quality physical, behavioral and oral health care to youth. The purpose of school-based health centers is to keep youth healthy, in school, and ready to learn. School-based health centers help schools do their job of educating, by improving the health and well-being of students and addressing health issues that interfere with learning. Programs are designed to promote healthy choices, prevent disease, and intervene early when problems arise.

JSPOT Services

  • Medical Care: Because JSPOT’s medical providers are affiliated with The Adolescent Center at St. Louis Children's Hospital, JSPOT is equipped to provide the same level of care provided at any typical pediatrician’s office. In addition, JPSOT is particularly committed to holistically addressing adolescents’ physical, emotional and social wellness needs.
  • Mental/Behavioral Health Services: As they navigate the path to young adulthood, JSPOT provides opportunities for adolescents to receive support from trusted and reliable adults, including therapy and referral to psychiatry services. JSPOT’s mental health services adds to adolescents’ existing support systems at home and school.

  • Social Services (case management): JSPOT supports students and families in meeting their basic academic and life necessities by connecting them to resources within the school and the wider community.

The SPOT (WashU Medicine - Supporting Positive Opportunities with Teens), operated by Washington University in St. Louis, provides a safe, free healthcare drop-in space for youth and young adults ages 13 to 24. Located at 4169 Laclede Ave., 63108, just east of Children's Hospital on Kingshighway, the center offers walk-in medical services on Mondays from 1 to 4 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments for Tuesday through Friday can be booked online through The SPOT website.
