Notice of Nondiscrimination (rev. 2012) and Title II Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 provides assurances to students, families, employees and community members that the District provides equal access to educational programs, services, activities and employment opportunities without discrimination and offers reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015, to replace the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2002. This bipartisan measure reauthorizes the 50-year-old Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the nation’s national education law and longstanding commitment to equal opportunity for all students. In 2012, the Obama administration began granting flexibility to states regarding specific requirements of NCLB in exchange for rigorous and comprehensive state-developed plans designed to close achievement gaps, increase equity, improve the quality of instruction, and increase outcomes for all students. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA): Parents/guardians and students who are at least 18 years of age have rights regarding education records. FERPA explains these rights and offers a process to file complaints if those rights are violated.
Get the Lead Out of School Drinking Water Act: The Jennings School District is committed to the safety and well being of our students, staff and community. This commitment is evident in the District’s response to Missouri’s new law. This critical piece of legislation ensures lead concentration in school drinking water does not exceed state standards.
In compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), services are offered in partnership with The Special School District of St. Louis County (SSD), to all eligible children between the ages of 3 and 21, with disabilities, under the District’s jurisdiction as part of SSD’s Compliance Plan for implementation of Missouri’s regulations for IDEA 2004.
Title III English Learners (formerly English Language Learners) are individuals whose native or home language is not English. These students and their families are offered support for instructional services and content modifications, as needed, based on assessments. The Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) affords parents certain rights regarding the District's conduct of surveys, collection and use of information for marketing purposes and certain physical exams.
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act is a federal law protects the rights of school-aged children of homeless and migrant workers by ensuring school enrollment, transportation and academic stability for children experiencing homelessness. Eligible students retain the right to remain in their "school of origin" regardless of housing changes.
Missouri Senate Bill 319 was enacted in 2001 and mandates early reading assessments for students in grades 3-6 and requires individualized Reading Improvement Plans for those reading substantially below grade level. The legislation mandates additional instruction and the potential retention of fourth-grade students performing below the third-grade level, subject to specific legal exceptions.
Students In Foster Care, in accordance with the JSD Board policy IGBE, are supported by services that promote educational stability, remove barriers to learning and provide access to the resources and opportunities needed for academic success.
