BECOMING A SUBSTITUTE
The 20 hours of online training to be a substitute teacher is now available through Frontline Education. A Content Substitute certificate may now be granted to an individual who has successfully completed a minimum of twenty (20) clock hours of department-approved substitute teacher training.     SUBSTITUTE TEACHER:  Visit the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) website to apply for your Substitute Teaching Certificate.  Teachers holding a valid Missouri Teacher's Certificate are no longer required to obtain Substitute Certificates effective August 29, 2011.   Click on DESE Web Applications  and then set up a user ID and password. This process must be completed before you can be considered for employment as a substitute teacher.
     
     SUBSTITUTE CUSTODIANS, MAINTENANCE, NURSES & SECRETARIES: Once your application has been completed , administration will review applications as  substitute vacancies become available.

ALL new and returning substitutes must complete the district's substitute orientation prior to assignments being offered. If you are interested in becoming a district substitute, contact Personnel Services at 314-653-8014.

What factors are considered before hiring?
Many criteria are reviewed prior to offering a candidate a position, including information contained in the candidate’s file, background experiences, education, reference checks, and responses received during the interview.

What kind of communication can I expect during the process?
If your qualifications meet the criteria for the position, you will be contacted by the personnel services or the building administrator/principal to schedule an interview.

Does my educational experience make me too expensive to be hired? Have I taught too many years to be hired?
No. Jennings School District is looking for the best match of a teaching applicant to the available opening. We hire people with many years of teaching experience, as well as first year teachers. Likewise, we hire teachers with bachelor’s degrees as well as candidates with advanced degrees.

Does Jennings School District have a salary schedule?
Yes.  Your teaching experience and degrees earned are taken into consideration in determining your salary. Teachers have found the salaries given by Jennings School District to be extremely competitive with surrounding school districts.

How will I be notified if I am to be hired?
The hiring process is ongoing. If you have been interviewed for a specific position, you will receive notification of your status when a candidate has been selected. Unsuccessful candidates who interview will be notified in writing to let them know that the position has been filled.
